VA Supreme CourtThe Model General Assembly is from March 29 to March 31. Participants will spend the nights of March 29 and March 30 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on 555 East Canal Street in downtown Richmond. We will meet at the hotel around 4:00 on Thursday, and the activity will end around noon on Saturday.  The students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the hotel on Thursday and Saturday, but they may not drive themselves, and they may not have access to a vehicle during this activity.  The cost for this is $200 per student.  This includes food for one night and the hotel.  There is a dinner provided by the YMCA, on Friday night.  The students will need to bring money for all other meals including dinner on Thursday, breakfast and lunch on Friday, and breakfast on Saturday.  We usually order pizza on Thursday, and there are plenty of choices for breakfast and lunch, and dinner if you don't want pizza,  in and around the hotel. More information about the MGA may be found on the Youth and Government Web Site.  Go to www.boballey.org and click on Youth and Government to get to the site.  If you have any questions, email Bob Alley at boballey@comcast.net or boballey@trinityes.org. Thanks for your support.

Youth and Government involves students in several hands on activities concerning government.  The club conducts mock elections and participates in two simulations each year, the Model Judiciary Program(MJP) and the Model General Assembly(MGA).  The MJP consists of a mock trial where the students take on the roles of lawyers and witnesses and argue an assigned case against another school before a real judge in a real court room. There are also two rounds of appeals in this program where the student lawyers make oral arguments concerning a specific issue in their case to real judges and lawyers.  The appeals rounds are held in the VA State Court of Appeals and the Virginia State Supreme Court.  In the Model General Assembly Program, students from schools all over the state take on the role of legislators in the VA General Assembly.  Each school submits at least one bill proposal in December, and then students from all of the participating schools gather for three days to discuss and try to pass their bills at the State Capitol the following spring.
