Bob Alley's Trinity Web Site

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be"      -Thomas Jefferson

My mission is to address Jefferson's concern by being a one stop source of information on a wide range of subjects from differing points of view.

My philosophy is that hard work usually leads to success and always results in a feeling of accomplishment that is its own reward, but I also believe that mental health is not achieved through constant labor.  For this reason, it is also my mission to provide a wide range of useful and interesting services as well as access to various forms of entertainment.

Finally, I want to provide my students with a site to supplement their classes, their clubs, and their sports teams.

This site is organized in the following way. Knowledge of this structure will help you successfully navigate your way through this site. If you get lost, consult the Site Map. There is a link to it at the bottom right of each page.

Prerequisites: Juniors and seniors who have achieved an A average in United States History, B+ average in United States History Honors or a B average in AP United States History and have a teacher recommendation.

Open to juniors and seniors, this course is designed to give students a thorough and critical perspective on American politics and government in preparation for the Advanced Placement examination in May.  Emphasis is placed on the constitutional underpinnings of American government including social contract theory and the colonial democratic tradition based on English government, United States political beliefs and behaviors, the role of political parties and interest groups, the major institutions of government including Congress, the Executive and Judicial Branches and the Federal Bureaucracy, as well as Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. Current events are used to reinforce understanding of the formulation of public policy, both domestic and foreign.  It is expected that students will take the Advanced Placement exam in May and a fee applies.

This course, open only to seniors, seeks to familiarize students with the concepts on which our government and economic systems are built. Emphasis will be placed on the constitutional underpinnings for American Government, the current political spectrum, political parties and interest groups, the three branches of our national government and their interaction, and civil rights and civil liberties.   An overview of the free market system will also be covered in the second semester.  Current events will be used to reinforce understanding about the formation of public policy.

Youth and Government involves students in several hands on activities concerning government.  The club conducts mock elections and participates in two simulations each year, the Model Judiciary Program(MJP) and the Model General Assembly(MGA).  The MJP consists of a mock trial where the students take on the roles of lawyers and witnesses and argue an assigned case against another school before a real judge in a real court room. There are also two rounds of appeals in this program where the student lawyers make oral arguments concerning a specific issue in their case to real judges and lawyers.  The appeals rounds are held in the VA State Court of Appeals and the Virginia State Supreme Court.  In the Model General Assembly Program, students from schools all over the state take on the role of legislators in the VA General Assembly.  Each school submits at least one bill proposal in December, and then students from all of the participating schools gather for three days to discuss and try to pass their bills at the State Capitol the following spring.

My Other Web Site

This is my original site. I started it in 2000 and have been working on it periodically ever since. There is information about me and my family and my interests. There is also a section of the site devoted to my thoughts on various issues. In addition there are links to a wide variety of sites that interest me, and hopefully others. Finally, I am affiliated with a few sites. That means I make a little money if someone buys something through a link on my site. The main site to which I am linked is Amazon. Any others are ones that I have patronized myself and found to be reliable and honest. If anyone knows anything to the contrary, I want to know about it. None of these links to affiliate web sites appear on my Trinity site (boballey.org), but if you are curious, please visit boballey.com .

Trinity Past and Present

I am writing a History of Trinity and am putting much of what I am finding from my research online. I am also posting news of significant current Trinity events. My three graduation speeches and related information and pictures are also on this part of the site. Click on the picture to go to this part of the site.

Trinity Golf

This is a work in progress, as is the case for most of this site. I was the coach of the Trinity Golf Team for fifteen years, and this part of the site records much of that history. I will fill in the years before and after my tenure as soon as possible.
